IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Mansfield has elected to permanently cease the addition of fluoride to the municipal water system.
The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Mansfield has made the decision to permanently cease the addition of fluoride into the municipal drinking water system. The addition of fluoride into a municipal water system is known as fluoridation. This is NOT an emergency. If it had been an emergency, you would have been notified immediately. This is a notification of change in treatment.
The practice of adding fluoride to the Municipal Authority’s water system began in the 1950s, as a means of improving dental health. The introduction of fluoride into toothpaste and other oral care products in the decades since have provided other opportunities for individuals to receive fluoride for dental health.
Although cost was not the deciding factor, the elimination of fluoride addition would eliminate costs associated with the purchase of the fluoride chemical, associated testing and monitoring, and chemical feed system replacement/upgrades.
The removal of the existing fluoride feed system, ancillary equipment, and remaining fluoride chemicals would begin on or near January 1, 2025.
